Family sync not opening--needs iTunes
When I try to open family sync it says iTunes is required and does not go any further to open. However, iTunes current version is installed and running on my computer so not sure why Family sync does not run? any help appreciated. thanks.

This sounds as if the Bonjour service is not running (this is normally installed and started as part of iTunes). Please check this by going to Control Panel>System & Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Services, and check that the Bonjour Service is shown as Started. If not, right-click and click Start. Also check that you have the latest version of iTunes (9.2.1.4 I think).

Where do you find "System & Maintenance"? My Control Panel has "System" and that has no "Administrative Tools". Now what?

It varies depending on which operating system you're using and how it's configured. If, after selecting Control Panel, you see a page headed "Adjust your computer's settings", then it's under System and Security.

I have installed the new versions of Families and family sync. My bonjour service is disabled by policy on my company's computer. Is there a way I can transfer files without having Bonjour service running so I can transfer over USB? When I try to open the new family sync version, it still says iTunes is required and then does not run. Thanks for any help on this.

The Bonjour service was originally essential to Families Sync's operation but, now that we have the "Locate by Address" function and also the USB transfer, we'll modify Families Sync so that it just displays a warning if Bonjour is not available. I'll aim to produce an update for this today or tomorrow.

Thanks a lot--that would be really helpful since I cannot enable Bonjour on my laptop per company policy--please let me know when you have a new version and thanks again.

Families Sync 1.1.3 is now available. This just displays a warning if Bonjour is unavailable but allows you to continue.
