Unable to synchronise without wireless network
I have been a user of Legacy Family Tree for several years now and am very please with the product. I was pleased to see the Families application for iPod touch and downloaded it as soon as I came accross it on iTunes. It was not made clear until I purchased the application that you had to use wi-fi to synchronise between my PC and the iPod touch. My main desktop computer is not connected to a wi-fi network. Therefore at this stage I am unable to use Families.
Can you tell me if there is another way of synchronising and do you intend to allow synchronsing through a USB connection |

RE: Unable to synchronise without wireless network
Unfortinuately, USB sync (via the iPhone, iPad or iPod sync cable) is not allowed to happen by Apple, not TelGen Families.
Until Apple allows 3rd party Apps to use this cable, WiFi is the only recourse that developers have available to them. Again, it's an Apple being a control freak thing. |

Unfortunately Apple do not permit the direct transfer of files via USB from an application running in Windows to an app on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad (except via iTunes). However, we are hoping to implement an alternative file transfer mechanism for those without WiFi. This will use the "File Sharing" feature introduced in iPhone OS 3.2 and iOS4, which enables files to be transferred via USB using iTunes. This will not be as seamless as the WiFi transfer as it will involve converting the file using Families Sync then switching to iTunes to transfer it. However, it should enable those who don't have WiFi available to use the app. If Apple change their policy in future to allow direct USB transfer we'll modify Families accordingly. We hope to have the additional transfer mechanism available within the next 2-3 weeks. Malcolm Green |

I have just installed the new version with the new USB sync option - on my PC (Windows based) and after 90 minutes of trial and error - IT WORKS!! I now have my very large Legacy file travelling with me on my iPhone - thank you again - I am very happy! |

RE: Unable to synchronise without wireless network
Fantastic work
I received notification yesterday of an upgrade to Families. This included the USB sinc option. I found it works well and within no time I was able to download my family tree to my iPod. The release notes were very good. Thanks to your team for being so reponsive. A job well done. |
