unable to connect to remote server
I have Windows XP Pro and a new iPad and version 1.6.0 of Families

I enter the address number listed on the ipad in sync view and click on the button and get an error message that I can't connect to the remote server. I have disabled my firewalls; I have restarted my computer and my iPad. I can connect through the USB and sync.

When you tap the Sync button on the iPad, the iPad should be listed automatically on the Families Sync screen. The fact that it isn't and that entering the address manually also doesn't connect indicates that there is a problem with your network setup. You can confirm this by typing "ping ipaddress" in a console window on your PC (replace ipaddress with the address shown on the iPad). If this fails to get a response, this confirms that the PC is unable to communicate with the iPad. The reasons for this can be many and varied and beyond the scope of our support, but we provide the USB transfer method as an alternative for situations like this.

RE: unable to connect to remote server
Can you give me the solutions for the top 2 or 3 reasons causing the problem. One of the main reasons I purchased your app was because of the wireless sync.

The first thing to check would be that both PC and iPad are on the same subnet. The iPad's IP address is that shown on the Sync screen. The PC's IP address is shown by the ipconfig command in a console window. The first 3 elements should be the same if they're in the same subnet. If they're not, you'll need to find where the PC's address originates from - perhaps it's using a different DHCP server from the iPad or maybe it's set as a fixed IP address.

You can also try using WiFi sync with iTunes (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 ). If this works you should be able to sync Families.
