Locate Device by Address
#1
My Kindle Fire isn't showing up automatically on the "Sync device using Wi-Fi" list. I got the device address from the Kindle itself as instructed and typed the address in to the "Locate Device" box. I get this message "Unable to connect to the remote server." My computer (a desktop) and my Kindle are both logged into the wi-fi.

Any suggestions?

What address is displayed on the Sync screen on the Kindle? And what is the IP address of your computer (type "ipconfig" at a command prompt).

The Kindle has 192.168.0.17:5050

When I type ipconfig at the command prompt I get 192.168.0.9

Those addresses look normal so there's no obvious reason why Wi-Fi transfer shouldn't work. You could try temporarily disabling the firewall in case that is blocking the transfer. Alternatively you can use USB transfer.
